Tejon Street, Colorado Springs - Look Both Ways

April 7, 2008 · 2 Comments

Tejon Street, downtown Colorado Springs, is no longer a one-way street. Starting today, the transformation into a ‘regular’ two-way street started, and is expected to be completed by Monday.

According to Dave Krauth, a City of Colorado Springs Engineer “Traffic will become a two-way road from Vermijo to Bijou. It is already two-way south of Vermijo and north of Bijou.”

Expect Springs Police to be out on Monday, to help confused drivers; which might be very helpful, considering that Tejon has been a one-way street for the past 37 years!

I think this move by the city was inherently stupid. Everyone I’ve talked to downtown pretty much agrees, too. I was in Pikes Perk the other day, and that seemed to be the main topic of discussion amongst the staff and patrons. Pretty much everyone was wondering the same thing - why??? All they’ve done is make Tejon much less pedestrian friendly, and I don’t believe they’ve solved any real traffic problem. They did waste a lot of money installing new lights and signs though…

    Ryan,

Changing Tejons traffic flow seems to be just one of those un-explainable actions that our city likes to take on occassion….37 years as a one way…and now we’ve changed?
I definetly agree on the “less pedestrian friendly”…now it’s more of a race to get across the street without being hit!
Makes you wonder - what’s next?
